Mr. Level Uses NCFI Geotechnical Polyurethanes to Stabilize Ohio State’s Field House Indoor Track

To help Ohio State avoid excavating the Indoor track, Mr. Level worked with NCFI Geotechnical to provide them with a solution called Deep Soil Injection.

To help Ohio State avoid excavating the Field House Indoor track, Mr. Level worked with NCFI’s Geotechnical Polyurethane Division to provide them with an alternate solution called Deep Soil Injection, a process where a chemical grout is injected at multiple depths to increase the load bearing capacity of the soil. NCFI and Mr. Level identified a unique approach of using two different polyurethane systems, to best meet the projects goals. The goal of Deep Soil Injection is to stabilize soils at depth by injecting the chemical grout at multiple targeted depths.

Mr. Level approached the track stabilization by first injecting the Terrathane 24-010 at 3ft depth to provide surface lift, and the Strata-Fill 24-039 at 6ft, and 9ft depths to fill voids and compact the soils at depth. As over lifting the track was a legitimate concern, Multiple measures were taken to ensure quality control. Laser levels were used to monitor lift, to make sure no track surface was bubbling up, and the crew worked in 3 man teams to monitor injection volumes and polyurethane travel. Stabilizing the soil allowed Ohio State to avoid excavating and replacing the track resulting in a savings of over $900K. NCFI’s technical support helped Mr. Level tackle the design and operational execution of the 4 day project. The result was over 2,000 sqft of track was stabilized to a fully compacted soil base, a pleased customer, and a track that is now on solid ground.
