Barnhardt Manufacturing Co. is Founded
Barnhardt Manufacturing Co. got its start way back 1900 in cotton batting, and remains a family-held business, now run by the fourth generation. Over the years the company has earned the title, “The First Family of American Cotton,”but has diversified holdings to include polyurethane foams and finished consumer products for the spa, medical, and dental fields.

NCFI Polyurethanes was Founded
A division of Barnhardt Manufacturing Company, NCFI was organized in 1964 by research chemist Dr. H. W. Bradley and Charlotte-based Barnhardt Manufacturing Company. NCFI quickly became a leader in the manufacturing of flexible polyurethane foam for the bedding and furniture industries.

NCFI Begins Polyurethane Development
NCFI first developed polyurethanes for concrete lifting and void-filling in the early 1990s.

Moved to Present Day Headquarters
In 1966, we moved into our present-day 46,000 square-foot plant in Mount Airy, NC. Since then, our facility has been expanded eight times to its current 280,000 square feet. NCFI has an additional North Carolina manufacturing plant in Hickory, and two more located in Dalton, GA and Salt Lake City, UT.

NCFI Establishes Terrathane Geotechnical Division
Seeing the ever growing applications of polyurethane in the geotechnical stabilization market, NCFI opens up the TerraThane Geotechnical Division in order to provide better services and a dedicated team for supporting the market.
